Possibly
the most common use of ‘Flash’ regarding website design is
usually found on the main opening index page of a website. A Flash introductory
page. Usually these pages have a ‘Skip Intro’
button and also a loading symbol
Not everybody has time to watch an introductory Flash movie.
Websites designed with Flash as an introductory first page may appear
highly impressive, however, I have yet to find a website with Flash used
in this way that has a page one ranking. Search engines read web pages,
and the first page, known as the index page, if it is in Flash, the search
engines can’t read it; thus although the website may appear to be
highly impressive because of the web design of its index page, it is of
little use if it is page 10 with a ranking position of 112. Your website
needs to be on page one to be found!
Flash does have other uses apart from trying to impress the visitor clicking
onto your website. It is a brilliant tool to show
videos. However, the downside is these pages may be slow to load -
depending upon the users Internet connection speed, and the size of the
file.
Web design is not only about appearance. It is about easy navigation,
with the main emphasis having to be - page ranking.
